Any situation where someone asks you for a refund of an overpayment is likely to be a scam, whether it’s on Vrbo or on some other site. Check other listings. The fraudsters then ask that part of the money be returned in cash or by wire transfer. By the time a victim learns from the bank that the check is bogus, it’s too late.
